From raising children to supporting aging parents, women often carry the emotional, physical, and financial weight of caring for others. While caregiving is an act of love, it can also become isolating and overwhelming.

The Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Brown County exists to change that. ADRC empowers older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers – many of whom are women – through education, support, respite, and meaningful community connection. Their goal is simple: meet caregivers before they reach a breaking point and ensure no one navigates caregiving alone.

Their impact is felt every day. As one caregiver shared:
“The best blessing is that I get to be my dad’s daughter again, not just his caregiver… I’m also able to be a better mom and wife. ADRC Program Specialists connect caregivers to monthly Mug Club support groups, educational workshops and conferences, respite care, financial guidance, and specialized support from a Caregiver Specialist and Dementia Care Specialist.

With 73 percent of ADRC’s caregivers being women in Brown County, these services are essential in helping women stay resilient, connected, and equipped to care for both their loved ones and themselves.

As needs grow throughout our aging community, ADRC remains committed to reaching caregivers early, raising awareness, and ensuring they have the tools to thrive – not just survive – the caregiving journey.

December 12, 2025 — Caregiving has long been part of women’s lives.
